So, I got an envelope in the night drop this morning that was all kinds of wonky. There were deposits and payments and withdrawals and neither rhyme nor reason to any of it...Needless to say, I was confused.
So, I looked up the customer's phone number and work number. It was only 7:30, so I figured no one would want a phone call from the bank THAT early. I waited and worked on stuff...and at 9:15 I called the home number.
"I'm sorry. The number you are trying to reach has been disconnected."
Hmm...I hoped the work number was correct. I dialed.
"Central Steel."
"Umm...I'm looking for [name]."
There was silence on the other line.
Then, "Ummm...there's no one...what is this regarding? Where are you calling from?"
"I'm calling from a bank, trying to get a hold of her."
"Oh, let me connect you to HR."
And the hold music is Air Supply's "All Out Of Love."
And now it's stuck in my head.
That's really the blog I wanted to post. I'm sure you'll wonder what happened, though.
Apparently she didn't work there. So...wrong number? Old number? No idea.
I was at a loss. What the heck would I do if I couldn't get a hold of her? Would I mail it back? What if they'd moved? Could I email? Would they get it? I can't just hold on to it! Could I drive it to their house? I had their address...
And Nancy looks at me and says, "Try the phone book."
Duh. In the storm of technology and computer files, I forgot the phone book. That little book gets no love anymore...and it's not like I can help it, because "I'm all outta love."

I used to read phone books. Um... yeah.
I'm all out of love. I'm so lost without you. Love it. Andru Donald's did a decent remake.
Phone books are so archaic.
@upandoutward - Were you that strapped for things to do?
@Emancip8 - I'll have to look it up. I don't hate the song...it was just...kind of obnoxious to be forced to listen to it on hold. I prefer nondescript classical.
@TastyAnonymity - True, but try finding a personal phone number on the internet...HARD!
Phone books are only good for ripping in half
@JJ_Ames - If you're one of the Power Team, I concur.
Ah yes, that wonderfull book that hardly anyone uses anymore. They may be archaic, but what happens when the computers are down & you can't look it up online?
@silentbill1814 - Well, try finding a personal phone number online...IMPOSSIBLE!
@Viewtiful_Justin - I grew up in the country, lower-middle income. There weren't a lot of things to do. On the PLUS side, I can entertain myself for hours and hours on end!
@upandoutward - True dat.
I do the same thing - I'm sort of generally annoyed by phone books, until I need one. Sometimes the internet just isn't good/local enough (gasp).
Great. Now that Air Supply song is stuck in my head, at least, the parts I know, which are: I'm all outta love. I'm so lost without you. ... somethin' somethin' somethin'.
I'm so lost without you. I know you were right, believing for so long. I'm all outta love, what am I without you? I can't be too late to say that I was so wrong.
Is it back in your head again? It may be in mine all day now. We'll see.
I had a client that either kept the radio on 107.3 for the intercom system or had a similar satellite station. We heard multiple air supply songs frequently throughout the audit. One girl who'd never heard of them or any of their songs was even able to pick out air supply by the first sound of the vocals by the end of the audit.
@lauralen - Hilarious.
